Balantiocheilus melanopterus

Size: Up to 35cm
Range: Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra
Water: pH about 7.0, hardness up to 150ppm
Food: Will take a wide variety of foods, but prefers to live, fresh, and frozen fish foods.

This Silver Shark is a beautiful, showy aquarium fish. Its graceful swimming habit and shiny silver colour, with contrasting black edged, yellow fins, make it a firm aquarium favourite. Even though it can grow quite large, it is very peaceful, ignoring fish much smaller than itself. Small silver sharks are now available to the industry and the 5 to 6cm size make wonderful additions to small to medium size aquariums. Remember to keep tanks covered as Balantiocheilus melanopterus is a jumper.

Supplies to the industry are from fish bred in ponds in South East Asia.
