| Xiphophorus helleri Size: Can grow up to 10cm
Range: Southern Mexico
Water: Normal community aquarium conditions. Use livebearer water
conditioning salts and keep pH about neutral (7.0)
Food: Will eat any aquarium fish food, also picks at algae in the aquarium. Best fed
several times a day.
Swordtails are one of the most popular varieties of aquarium fish, they are hardy, active,
and peaceful species, that come in a huge range of colours.
Swordtails are also extremely easy to breed.
Their most striking feature is the spectacular "sword" which only develops on
adult males. The sword is a soft harmless extension of the tail fin. Swordtails are
livebearers, meaning the female gives birth to fully formed, free swimming baby fish about
one month after fertilisation.
