| Chaetodon vagabundus This fish, which is also known as the Criss Cross Butterfly fish, and the
very similar C. pictus, do not do particularly well in the home aquarium, although, as
with all rules, there will always be notable exceptions. The main reason for illustrating
the fish here is to warn all except very experienced aquarists from including this fish in
their collection. The principal problem which is experienced is its refusal to feed
adequately and consistently in the sea aquarium. In consequence, the nutrients it gleans
from its finicky picking among the corals, rocks and gravel, hardly seem to supply the
requirements of its basal metabolism (the basic minimum chemical activity of an organism
necessary for the maintenance of the life process). Mysis is usually the first food
accepted.
