| Therapon jarubua These fishes, which are also known as Tigerfishes or Crescent Perches, are
equally at home in pure salt water or brackish water, and although they may be maintained
successfully in fresh water they seldom appear to be fully at ease. They are probably the
hardiest of all fishes that can be kept in a sea aquarium, feeding with great exuberance
on all foods. They can become rather boisterous and may subdue the more delicate true reef
fishes such as the butterfly fishes so that they hide and slowly starve to death. They are
usually low-priced and so are an excellent first choice for the novice aquarist. They are
not brilliantly coloured but because they frequently school, a dozen or so in a large tank
is an impressive sight.
