| Scatophagus argus This fishs systematic name translates into English most
unfortunately as the Hundred-eyed Muck-eater. This name was acquired because
the first specimens examined by western ichthyologists were found to have stomachs full of
excrement. Such unsavoury feeding habits, however, are certainly not characteristic of
this species if it is provided with more attractive fare. In the sea aquarium, Scats do
not prove so hardy as the previous or next species, but they have nevertheless been kept
for more than four years by relative beginners in the field.
