| Pomacanthus maculosus Although not so spectacularly coloured as the previous species, the adult
specimen of P. maculosus has beautiful elongated tips to the posterior edges of the dorsal
and anal fins and is a most graceful swimmer. It is perhaps the most hardy of all the
larger angelfishes, having a high resistance to disease and a very adaptable appetite.
Furthermore it is one of the cheapest of the angelfishes and can be strongly recommended
to the beginner after he has gained initial experience with damselfishes and clownfishes.
Feeding presents no difficulties whatsoever and although
fishes are initially very shy, after seven to ten days in the aquarium they will
continually display their pleasing colours at the front of the tank. All foods are eagerly
accepted. The very similar angelfish P. asfur, from the same area of the North Kenya coast
up to the Res Sea, is easily distinguished from P. maculosus by having a bright yellow
tail.
